Alleluia!  Prepare the way of the Lord.
All flesh shall see the salvation of God. Alleluia!
Gospel Acclamation for the 2nd Sunday in Advent
Happy New Year!  December 2 is the start of the new church year, as we begin to anticipate and long for the birth of the Christ child at Christmas.  In anticipation of the birth, John the Baptist comes forth calling for us to prepare the way of the Lord with the discipline of repenting of sins.  This repenting of sins is not just saying, “I’m sorry.”  Instead, the repenting of sins calls us to change our ways of thinking only about ourselves but to think and act for those others with whom we are connected in Christ.  This Christ child who is coming dangerously calls us to realize that life, following Him connects us to a life of service.
Service that will be shown in many and various ways, donations to food pantries, service at shelters, visiting the shut-ins, and in ways too numerous to count.  At Amazing Grace, our mission is to join God at work the world.  This mission is not a one day event, but something we are called to every day.  As people connected in Christ, we reach out to one another, our community, and our world.

A Short History of Becoming the Rolling Rev

A response to a person who loves me and asked how I became the Rolling Rev, just so you know I love all of my friends and family who take the time to asking wonder how I am doing.  Your love and support bring me joy, comfort, and a sense of wholeness.  Thank you all!
I do not think you’re being insensitive, and I’m sorry it took me so long to respond, I was busy there at the end of June and I forgot to answer.  I have multiple sclerosis and until they find a cure or develop electronics that help me control my limbs I use my wheels to get me where I need to go.  I had my first major incident of MS the day after Thanksgiving 2000.  I had just returned from my first call at an American Lutheran Church in Frankfurt, Germany & The Lutheran Field Service Europe.  I was planning to enter the Air Force as a chaplain in January 2001.  The Air Force said no, when they found out I had an undiagnosed MS incident, a grand mal seizure with scarring on my brain tissue.
The doctors were not able to diagnose me until March 2002.  While waiting for a diagnosis, I did 2 out of 3 years of law school and decided that I did not really want to be a lawyer.  Once I found out that MS is not a fatal disease, I went back to being a pastor in Winthrop, Minnesota, a small town 1 ½ hours southwest of the Twin Cities.  In late 2007, early 2008, I had to go on disability, when my legs stopped working.  So now I am a supply pastor (I substitute for other pastors on vacation), I do short-term counseling, weddings/funerals, and advocacy.  I also lead a MS support group, am on my church Council, and teach Sunday school.  Plus once in a while I still do a TEC.  One of my friends, @Brandon, is the TEC Council President and he always ends his newsletters with Shine on & when I do email with him.  I always reply Shine on & I’ll Roll on.  Life is good, life is full; God is good!  All the time!  God is good!  Thanks for asking.

Thank You, Ministry Volunteers Connecting Us in Christ!

Thank You, Ministry Volunteers
Connecting Us in Christ!

Every time we gather as a community, there are many people who return to God the gifts and talents that they have.  Some people are gifted to be presence in front of the congregation or a classroom, others are gifted to be a presence behind the scenes preparing the altar, preparing education materials, or attending to the administration of all the details.  Lest we forget as we attend to the work of a community joining God at work in the world, we are supported by the prayers of the faithful.  As a Worship & Music Ministry Team we would like to extend prayerful thanks to all ministry volunteers, connecting us in Christ!

Thanksgiving Prayer of the Day
Almighty God our Father, your generous goodness comes to us new every day. By the work of your Spirit lead us to acknowledge your goodness, give thanks for your benefits, and serve you in willing obedience, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.

Alleluia! God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that by always having enough of everything, you may share abundantly in every good work. Alleluia! Gospel Acclamation for Thanksgiving Day
“By God's grace, together we have what we need,” so ends the mission statement of my previous Synod, then I read the above gospel acclamation for Thanksgiving Day and I realize how countercultural God’s economy is compared to our every day life.  On Thursday the fourth week of November, many people gather around tables laden with food, followed by pie shared while watching football.  Then as early as 10 PM that same day, shoppers will line up to score “Black Friday” specials before anyone else.  On that same day, others will be called to service called to be connected to others in Christ who truly has provided what we need.
Each one of these actions is an act of worship and thankfulness to share abundantly the blessings we have is received in abundance.
Many exciting things are happening at Amazing Grace this month.  Stewardship & Evangelism ministry team members are continuing every member visits.  November 4, is all Saints Sunday with acolyte training at 9:15, during that time, there will be coffee with the Council.  November 15, 7 PM there is a Worship & Music ministry team meeting.  November 21, 7 PM we will have a Thanksgiving Eve service, followed by a pie social.  Sundays in November we will worship at 8 AM & 10:30 AM with communion at both services.  December 1, we will have a New Years Eve decorating party to prepare the sanctuary for the new Church year, the first Sunday of Advent, which this year is December 2.  As we prepare to celebrate the birth of the Savior, we will decorate the church between 10 and noon, followed by a pizza party.
In November, Pastor Chris leads worship at Inver Glenn and at the Good Samaritan.  Volunteers to share music or simply conversation are always welcome, for more information contact Pastor Chris.
In November we have many musical opportunities for fellowship and worship leadership in our choirs for all ages.  Please check the Amazing Grace Opportunities Booklet or call the office to find a choir to connect with.  For information about the sanctuary choir or leading the congregation in new hymns or praise songs you may connect with Susan , Sanctuary Choir Director,  or Brad at church.

Amazing Grace Newsletter Article

For it was you who formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
 (Psalm 139:13-14)
¯¯Worship & Music Notes¯¯

I love this verse from Psalm 139, the image of God taking the time to form me and knit me together linked with the knowledge that God does not abandon me to sin and brokenness but sends his son to live, die, and rise again brings hope and promise to the world.  These words and the redeeming acts of Jesus are words and actions are meant for you, me, and the entire world.
On a more global scale all of us from Amazing Grace are members of a larger body, the body of Christ formed and knit together through the waters of baptism.  As people knit together we are all interconnected one with another, we are "Connected in Christ."
For the 2012-2013 year our theme is "Connected in Christ."  In September come and see our connections!  September 2 is our last Sunday of the summer schedule with a prayer service at 8:00 AM & Worship with Communion at 9:30 AM.  Saturday, September 8 is the opportunity to connect with the Inver Grove Heights community with our float in the IGH Days parade.
Sunday, September 9 is Rally Day!  We will return to our regular Sunday schedule with Worship with Communion at 8:00 & 10:30 AM, and between services there are rally day activities with a light meal.  The 2012-2013 Amazing Grace Opportunities Booklet will debut with learning and service activities for the year.  Young people will be given an age-appropriate Bible.
Sundays, September 16, 23, 30, will have Worship with Communion at 8:00 & 10:30 AM with education opportunities between services.

Memorable Ally Women of Faith in 2011 | GLAAD
Heidi Neumark was my internship supervisor! I am delighted that she has won this award. To learn more about Heidi find her book "Breathing Space"to see how her love of God, love of God's people, and love of family, has been central to her lifelong ministry! As a clergy person in Minnesota, I find her an example for all people in the upcoming discussions on the marriage amendment in November 2012.
